About the Artist
Titusville artist George Olexa, Jr works in multiple media, including paint, ceramics, paper, pastels and printmaking. His work strives, through visual representation, to activate in the art patron, observer and gallery viewer a moment of thought, sensory awareness and reaction. For him, it is not enough that a work of art hangs on the gallery wall and a viewer glances at it for fifteen seconds and moves on to the next piece – he believes contemporary work should do more.
Olexa studied at Mercer County Community College and the Newark College of Engineering before receiving his Master of Science from the University of Illinois. He continues to hone his craft at the Art Students League of New York.
His work has been hung in many group exhibitions over the years, including at Ellarslie and Artworks in Trenton, Grounds for Sculpture, Newark Museum and the Arts Council of Princeton, and his works appear in many private collections, including the Hunterdon Museum of Art and Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China.
